What is Zirconium Teeth?

A zirconia tooth is a restoration that covers a damaged tooth. It is generally applied on broken, cracked teeth. Dentists use zirconia crowns as it is the strongest restoration material. Zirconium veneers can be used for years or even decades with proper care and routine dental examinations.

Before zirconium treatment is applied, dentists perform an examination to determine whether treatment is needed. Zirconium teeth are applied to adult teeth that have been damaged in some way.

The most common reasons for needing a zirconium crown are:

– If the tooth is cracked, cracked, cracked or worn

– If there is a large filling in the tooth

– If you have recently had a root canal treatment

– If a dental implant has been placed

How Are Zirconium Veneers Applied?

There are two main types of procedures for zirconium veneer. Your dentist can prepare your tooth and put on a temporary veneer at one visit, and then stick the permanent veneer to your tooth at the second visit.

Zirconium crowns require a mechanically retaining tooth preparation similar to that used for porcelain fused metal crowns. The gingival margins are at least 0.6 mm deep. Axial walls have a minimum depth of 1.0 mm and an anatomical occlusal reduction of 1.5 mm.

Colour Options

Zirconia dental lab offers multiple color options corresponding to the Vita Classic Shade Guide and bleach shades are also available. Special staining ensures that the Zirconia restoration blends seamlessly with existing restorations and natural teeth.

How Long Does Zirconium Crown Treatment Take?

Although it sometimes ends in 1 day, it generally takes between 7 and 10 days.

What are the Features of Zirconium Crown?

Increased Strength and Stamina

One of the biggest challenges in dentistry is ensuring that restorative procedures use biocompatible materials that can withstand the pressure required by chewing forces. Zirconia offers much more power than porcelain, with 5 times the amount of power seen in porcelain and other types of veneers. This makes zirconia an excellent choice for dental patients who may have a history of broken, cracked or otherwise cracked veneers made from other materials.

Better Stain Resistance

Zirconia resists staining compared to composite ceramic or acrylic coatings. This is important for dental patients who want a natural look. Resists coffee, tea, wine and nicotine staining. As natural teeth change due to staining or age, adjustments in veneer color may be necessary over time.

Original Teeth Protection

Other types of veneers that are worn over natural teeth to provide protection may require part of the tooth to be removed to achieve the best fit. Other healthy teeth surrounding the veneered tooth may also require some preparation before the veneer is set in place. Zirconium crowns do not require much removal of the natural tooth. This means much greater preservation of naturally healthy teeth, which can go a long way in ensuring overall dental health. Preservation of the natural tooth is always the priority of the dentist.

Hypoallergenic Properties

Zirconia offers a high compatibility with the human body and this is why this material can be found in a number of medical applications. A patient is much less likely to experience an allergic reaction to zirconia. Some patients have a sensitivity to certain metals and materials. An infection or rejection can cause pain, infection, additional tooth or jawbone loss. Zirconia crowns are metal-free and have a biocompatible composition that is well tolerated by patients with the highest sensitivity levels.

Natural Appearance

While the color and translucency of zirconia gives it a much more natural appearance and harmonizes with natural teeth, it is not always the right choice to use it on teeth with high visibility. It may be more suitable for teeth at the back of the mouth, unless they are coated with porcelain to give the front teeth a flawless appearance that fits better.

Temperature Resistance

The ability to better withstand hot and cold temperatures can help protect against the hypersensitivity often seen with other coatings. Zirconia veneers have a low thermal conductivity and do not transfer extreme fluctuations in temperature like other crowns do. This means that the feeling of discomfort in the patient’s mouth is reduced when eating ice-cold food or drinking a hot beverage.

Easily Changeable

Zirconia is easy to replace, shaped the way it needs to be, and can be recolored to perfectly match existing natural teeth when discoloration is required.

What are the Disadvantages of Zirconium Crown?

Zirconium crowns have almost no disadvantages. In the past, the hardness of the material raises some doubts about rubbing against the root of the tooth and abrading opposing teeth. Initially, only bone-white designs could be produced for zirconia veneers, sometimes resulting in an unsightly appearance. But now, new generation materials are pre-engineered and it is possible to reveal highly aesthetic and naturally perfect teeth with minimal tooth reduction.
